Downtown Portland retailers only have one major construction project to contend with this Holiday season.

Since 1984 the Portland Bureau of Transportation has limited the number of projects that block foot and road traffic, but exemptions always come through. Last year there were five major projects.

“I suspect this (will be) one of downtown retailers’ highest sales seasons,” Steve Trujillo, chair of the Downtown Neighborhood Association told the Daily Journal of Commerce. “The moratorium makes it easier for folks to come in and bring their vehicles because, hopefully, they are buying a lot of stuff.”

Is this a boon to the downtown retail sector or a sign of not so cheerful tidings?
