Oregon’s highway division remains busy with federal stimulus projects, with more money expected to come in from the state.
The deputy director of the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Highway Division leads nearly 3,000 employees — more than most agencies — and manages a two-year budget of $3.6 billion. The state system has more than 8,000 highway miles and 2,600 bridges carrying about 60 percent of Oregon’s traffic.
In addition to a $1.3-billion effort over a decade to fix cracking bridges, Doug Tindall’s division oversaw an infusion of nearly $250 million in federal economic-recovery money for repair projects — and will get more state money under recently approved legislation for more work.
