An abandoned water and subdivision project in Yachats has residents picking up the slack.

An empty water tank is all that’s left of an ambitious Yachats subdivision project that taxpayers are now left to cover.

Jonathan Monschke, who hoped to turn the hillside into a posh collection of stately manors, who hoped that this water tower could feed not just the 44 lots he subdivided on Horizon Hill but also two other developments, who started with a couple hundred thousand dollars he got by leveraging his family’s home, is broke.

And that means it’s the Yachats taxpayers’ problem now.
