Mt. Bachelor plans upgrades


Mt. Bachelor is prosposing updates to its master development plan – the first in 20 years.

New hiking and biking trails, ski runs, and a day lodge are on the list of updates to Mt. Bachelor’s master development plan, which will be put before the public for the input.

Before any of the upgrades could become reality, specific plans would have to be submitted for further environmental surveys, research and engineering, and then receive approval from the U.S. Forest Service. But first, Mt. Bachelor is preparing to get feedback on the ideas in a series of public meetings in Bend, Sunriver and Portland that will kick off next week (see “If you go” Page A6).

Dave Rathbun, president and general manager of the ski area, said it’s been more than 20 years since Mt. Bachelor last updated its master plan, and the mountain is ready to improve its services to better accommodate visitors.
