A Eugene manufacturer of equipment to sort recyclables is experiencing rapid growth in contrast to a relatively stagnant Lane County economy.

The company’s growth is noteworthy in a county where prominent manufacturing industries have been hammered by the long economic downturn. The closure of the Hynix computer-chip plant and some other high-tech operations, plus much of the recreational vehicle manufacturing industry, killed thousands of factory jobs.

Privately held Bulk Handling Systems doesn’t release financial figures, but “our top line” (revenues) are up 75 percent this year over last year, [CEO Dave Miller] said.
