Rackspace Hosting is close to finalizing plans for a $100 million data center near Boardman in Morrow County.

Documents obtained by The Oregonian through a public records request show that the company has applied for Oregon tax breaks, and that Morrow County officials wrote to state officials this month in support of the project. 

The documents don’t say how big the facility would be. But the Port of Morrow said previously that a company known as Boardman Acquisition LLC — believed to be a Rackspace holding company — was negotiating to buy 100 acres at the port, with an option for an additional parcel of equal size. 

The project would employ 65, [port manager Gary Neal] said, and attract an initial investment of $100 million. Others familiar with the project’s details said the total investment could reach $500 million if Rackspace fully builds out the facility.
