Usage numbers for the six free electric vehicle charging stations near downtown Salem are beginning to come in.

The 14 chargers have had 182 total visits, 16 cars have used a charger more than once and six vehicles have charged only once, said Judy Johnduff, transportation planner for the city of Salem.

J.D. Howell, an area representative with ECOtality, said early payment models project a fee of about $1 per hour, although he is quick to point out it is just an estimate.
