Some people argue that these types of laws are creating more conflicts in rural areas.
The nonprofit 1,000 Friends of Oregon opposed the law, arguing that it — like a dozen other provisions in law before it — gradually is eroding the protections in place for farmland and farmers.
The concern is that these activities will take farmland out of production even though it still is zoned exclusive farm use.
Others argue that the laws are allowing property owners to earn a better income while also recognizing that not all land zoned EFU is good for farming.
