A disappointing job market has led to a rise in student entrepreneurs.

Enterprising college students aren’t leaving their fates to a bruising job market that has stymied their earning power and pitted them against a larger and more experienced labor pool. Waves of them are striking out on their own, and colleges are taking note. 

Portland State University expects to unveil a center devoted to student startups this semester and the University of Portland introduced its entrepreneurship degree at the start of the school year. Oregon State University expects to help launch six student-owned businesses this year, when it typically averages one annually.
