Elementary class sizes Salem-Keizer School District have swelled to 27 to 30 students this year due to budget cuts, which means three to six more students per class than last year.

On Friday, Salem-Keizer School District officials notified parents and principals at the two schools that they will move teachers from other elementary schools to split up the classes this week. The district also tapped a reserve fund several weeks early to help lower kindergarten class sizes at Four Corners, Scott and Liberty elementaries for the first day of kindergarten on Tuesday.
