A cool, wet March and April is causing problems for Oregon farmers as the planting season is about 10-12 days behind schedule.
With the exception of May 24, last week’s average temperatures hovered in the lower 60s for the Salem area, said Tiffani Brown, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Portland office. “Normally, it’s approximately 70 degrees at this time of year. It’s been between 8 to 10 degrees on average lower than normal,” Brown said.
Day-to-day precipitation is difficult to average because it varies so much, but the amount of rain this month has been slightly higher than normal, Brown said. “It’s been about a 10th of an inch above normal on average this month,” Brown said.
