The Forest Grove city council approved new business incentives that they hope will attract entrepreneurs away from nearby Beaverton and Hillsboro.

The council hopes the thousands of dollars in savings will convince business owners to move into Forest Grove’s numerous vacant commercial and industrial spaces.

“We want to make sure we keep up with our competitors, so to speak, and get our name out there,” said Jeffrey King, the city’s economic development coordinator.

Under the program, any new or existing business that moves into one of the city’s vacant commercial or industrial spaces within the next 14 months can waive the cost of a business license, up to $2,000 of the site plan review, up to $1,000 of the sign permit review, and up to $5,000 of the building permit.
