An Oregon bill seeks to subsidize schools to buy local food, benefiting the local economy and improving children’s health.
House Bill 2800 is pending in the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
“This investment could provide tremendous support directly to our farm, our cooperative and our communities,” said [Farmer Molly] McCargar, who also sits on the Gervais School Board. “Investing Oregon dollars in Oregon food and supporting family farms are more important now than ever.”
The Gervais and Portland districts, through a foundation grant, were part of a pilot project to buy locally grown products for use in schools to improve nutrition of students.
