Astoria High School was chosen as one of four schools nation-wide to receive laptops in a Google pilot program.

The students will test the internet-only Google Chrome Notebooks months before they appear on the market.

Within the next few weeks, a companion wireless Internet network valued at $30,000 is being installed to accommodate the increased online traffic, paid for with a grant from the Oregon Department of Education’s Oregon Virtual School District.

The notebook comes to life in just seconds when opened, and is built solely for Internet use. There’s no software to purchase or break, and all documents and programs used come from the Internet.
