Lcc president Mary Spilde says community colleges must follow employment trends. Spilde, 59, has been a national leader in community college education. She recently completed a term as board chairwoman of the American Association of Community Colleges and is on the board of the League for Innovation in the Community College.

We’ve got 46 to 48 different areas of career and technical programs ranging from the health care professions — which is one of our signatures — to graphic design, to auto tech, to networking, energy. And we try to keep a close eye on what’s happening in employment, what’s happening in business to make our programs reflect the needs of the local community.
