Mayor Sam Adams signed a memorandum of understanding with a Swedish green building company in Stockholm.

The memorandum makes Portland Fagerdala Hem AB’s North American foothold for testing and developing a new green home building system.

The agreement means the company and the city will work together on a plan for a Portland-based manufacturing facility that could employ up to 50 workers. The two will also work on Fagerdala’s participation in a Green Innovation Park being planned by the City of Portland as a showcase and test-bed for green building technologies.

Fagerdala Hem is a factory built construction system that uses a foam-like, environmentally-friendly cement substitute that is five times lighter than traditional concrete and provides better energy efficiency.
