Oregon’s child labor regulations are changing to conform to new federal standards, include new prohibitions as well as job opportunities.
The Wage and Hour Division of Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries is changing child labor regulations to conform with new federal standards.
The changes will include prohibitions as well as new opportunities. Minors under 18 can no longer engage in forest fire fighting but they will be allowed to operate power-driven pizza dough rollers.
Other changes have toughened child labor laws, such as by prohibiting employment of minors in poultry slaughtering and packaging plants.
BOLI has identified and notified all registered employers of minors in Oregon believed to be affected by the federal changes, which took effect July 19.
