Metro Council President David Bragdon is stepping down from his post to become director of long-term planning and sustainablity for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Bragdon moved to Oregon from New York City at age 12.

This spring, term limits forced Bragdon, 51, to sit out the May 18 primary for Metro Council president, a job he has held since 2002 coordinating the region’s land-use and transportation planning.

Bragdon, who lives in downtown Portland, has been rumored to be a possible challenger to Mayor Sam Adams in 2012.
