BEND BULLETIN: Police departments receive federal money to buy body cameras.

Police in Beaverton and Eugene will purchase equipment with nearly $400,000 combined from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, an agency within the U.S. Department of Justice. The city of Eugene will get $249,000 and Beaverton will receive $150,000 through the grant program.

The award notably left out the Portland Police Bureau and Bend Police Department, two departments that were at the forefront last legislative session calling for laws to clarify that their officers could wear cameras to record their actions when dealing with the public.
