Oregon Tilth and California Certified Organic Farmers plan to merge under the name CCOF Tilth.

Both nonprofit groups are leaders in organic certification — CCOF certifies more than 2,300 organic farms while Oregon Tilth certifies more than 1,400 — a growing sector of the food industry.

“Both Oregon Tilth’s and CCOF’s origins date back to the 1970s amidst growing interest in the benefits of organic farming,” said Chris Schreiner, Oregon Tilth’s executive director, in a press release. “We both have deep roots in the organic movement.”
