Portland startup Chirpify wants to use hashtags to connect advertisers with consumers.
So Chirpify plans to announce a new service today, something it calls “#actiontags.” The idea is that shoppers with a Chirpify account could instantly subscribe to newsletters, vote in TV competitions, or buy a product — by responding on Twitter to a message they see on TV with a social media hashtag such as #vote, #buy or #enter.
Chirpify has raised $7.3 million in venture backing, including a $4 million investment the company announced at the end of July. The 14-person company’s clients include Adidas, Master Card and the Portland Trail Blazers.
