1110_Powerlist01Oregon’s health plan providers are facing new challenges as national health care reform rolls out. “As the pool increases with those who require a higher level of care, in the short run that translates to a higher cost,” says Providence Health Plans COO Michael White of the Affordable Health Care Act’s provision that forbids providers from denying insurance because of pre-existing conditions. “I am hopeful [the pool] will include healthy people, as well as those who need care.”

But he’s confident that the pressure to cut costs in the face of short-term losses is encouraging health plan providers to find ways to streamline operations and improve communication.

“I am enthused about the next 10 years,” he says. “It will be a time when we address the issues that have been ailing us as an industry and as a country.”
