Nanotechnology company AcryMed received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for its product, which makes medical devices impervious to infection-causing bacteria. AcryMed’s SilvaGard technology can be used to treat just about any medical device and was adopted by I-Flow Corp., makers of anesthesia delivery catheters. Jack McMaken, CEO of AcryMed, says his company is in development talks with several other device makers. SilvaGuard will help fight the hospital-related infections that strike 2 million U.S. patients every year.
