The annual number of passengers arriving at and departing from Portland International Airport (PDX) finally surpassed 2000’s peak in 2005, in line with figures for the United States as a whole. PDX traffic jumped 6.4% last year, compared to 4.1% nationally. Around Oregon, Redmond’s airport near Bend hosted 20.3% more people in 2005; Medford was up 11.7%. Eugene lagged behind these two at 3.9%, though it gained 15.1% in 2004. This summer, increasing demand may elevate some airline fares, already on the rise because of higher fuel costs and easing competition.
