Oregon farmers and ranchers had a record-breaking year in 2005 with more than $4 billion in product sales, according to the Oregon State University Extension Service. Larry Burt, OSU Extension economist, says the state’s agriculture industry hit the new record despite price instability and market volatility. Of the total earnings, 72% came from crop sales and 28% from livestock. Leading counties include Marion County with $540 million in sales, Clackamas County with $362 million, Washington County and Umatilla counties both with $275 million, and Yamhill County with $264 million.
