A 14.7-Mile TriMet rail line between Beaverton and Wilsonville will be the first suburb-to-suburb train for commuters in Oregon and one of just a few in the country. The train will have diesel-powered engines, a first for TriMet. The $117.3 Million line will operate on Portland Western Railroad tracks, making the project a lesson in cooperation for freight and commuter rail operators. Up to 74 people, two bikes and two mobility devices will be shuttled in about 27 minutes during the morning and evening commuting times alongside I-5. Service will begin in September 2008.
