Hang onto that pink slip. Employees at Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing Co. should not have to wait long to get their jobs back. The company, founded in 1984, produces about four planes per week. About 185 workers were temporarily laid off at the end of March, as the company tightened its management tiers and streamlined the manufacturing process. Wan Abd Majid was hired as Columbia’s new CEO, replacing Bing Lantis,  according to Randy S. Bolinger, spokesman from the company. Once the manufacturing process is refined, Bolinger says, furloughed employees will get their jobs back sometime in mid-May.


Quirky specialty grocery store Trader Joe’s announced plans to open a location in Bend. The store, located in the Cascade Village Shopping Center, will be the first in Central Oregon. Alison Mochizuki, director of national publicity for the Monrovia, Calif.-based company, confirmed the new store will be 13,000 square feet. “There are lots of foodies there,” she says, highlighting one of the draws of building in Bend.
