PORTLAND The sting of the news that Oregon will lose another large corporate headquarters with Columbia Forest Products uprooting to Greensboro, N.C., was softened a bit by the fact that retiring CEO Harry Demorest, a longtime civic and business leader, plans to remain in town and involved. Demorest, 65, will stay on the board of Columbia Forest Products and remain a member of the Oregon Investment Council. Demorest’s retirement trigged the relocation because the new CEO, Brad Thompson, lives in Greensboro. But Columbia plans to keep most of its 500 jobs in Oregon intact. Officials say it will maintain its active import division here in additon to its green manufacturing business.
