No. 1 Large Company: Hitachi Consulting
It's difficult to create a happy, fun, exciting office environment when your employees spend most of their week on the road. But the Portland office of Hitachi Consulting has figured out the perfect formula. First comes the tangible benefits: health, dental, vision, mental health, fitness and alternative care plans; 30 days of paid time off; flex schedules and telecommuting; volunteering paid time off; sick time for dependents; paternity and maternity leave. Then there are the intangibles: pro bono work, lots of parties and events, training opportunities and career and mentoring programs. Not only does this company teach other businesses how to succeed, they've learned how to apply those best practices to themselves. "For the first time in my career," says an employee, "I see myself staying with my employer for the rest of my work life."
