JULY 2007: AROUND THE STATE, DISPATCHES
THE DALLES
One hundred workers at Oregon Cherry Growers will transition
from seasonal to full-time employees at the company’s two
plants in The Dalles. Oregon Cherry Growers, the largest cherry
handler in the United States, also opened a new fresh packing
plant last month in Wapato, Wash. Ed Johnson, CEO and
president, says the company is also expanding its production of
infused-dried fruits, including strawberries and blueberries as
well as cherries, as a strategy to diversify its business.
