JUNE 2007: AROUND THE STATE, DISPATCHES
MEDFORD
Future forest fires might not be as devastating as 2002’s
Biscuit Fire now that Jackson County commissioners have
approved a plan put forward by the Southern Oregon Small
Diameter Stewardship Collaborative. The plan calls for
increasing the amount of small-diameter trees removed from
unusually dense forests in the Rogue Basin. Collaborative
members say removing the small trees decreases the risk of
major forest fires while also creating new jobs in Southern
Oregon.
