Future forest fires might not be as devastating as 2002’s Biscuit Fire now that Jackson County commissioners have approved a plan put forward by the Southern Oregon Small Diameter Stewardship Collaborative. The plan calls for increasing the amount of small-diameter trees removed from unusually dense forests in the Rogue Basin. Collaborative members say removing the small trees decreases the risk of major forest fires while also creating new jobs in Southern Oregon.
