JUNE 2007: AROUND THE STATE, DISPATCHES
SHADY COVE
Every day is Earth Day in this city of about 2,500. In April
the city decided to recommend in its bylaws that all new
residential construction earn Earth Advantage certification.
While Wilsonville used Earth Advantage standards in its
Villebois development in 2003, this is the first time an entire
city has applied these standards in their bylaws. Earth
Advantage homes must meet strict green building demands such as
using a minimum of 15% less energy than standard homes. About
3,000 homes were Earth Advantage certified in 2006. Earth
Advantage also partnered with the Medford office of Habitat for
Humanity to make the nonprofit’s 2007 homes
environmentally friendly.
