April 2007: Dispatches
{safe_alt_text}

REEDSPORT — Partners announced that Oregon’s much-anticipated first wave-power park will open in late 2007, 2.5 miles off the coast near Reedsport. Oregon Power Technologies and Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative have teamed up to develop the demonstrational power park. OPT will install one of its PowerBuoy systems which will generate about 2 megawatts of power, enough to power 500 homes. PNGC will purchase the electrical energy created by the wave-power park and will pay to help get the park up and running. This is the first wave-power operation in the country to receive a permit.
