After a campaign to find the employees to staff it, a Pilot Travel Station opened on Highway 97 in Chemult in late October. “We held three job fairs and found four people who actually showed up,” says Pilot general manager Jeff Watt. “And at the last job fair I was offering a year of free gas.” But with the help of Don Richie, director of non-traditional studies at Klamath Community College and other local business owners, Watt was able to hire the 27 people he needed to run the gas station, convenience store and Subway sandwich shop.
