The Oregon Department of Transportation gave the Port of Arlington a $1.89 million Connect Oregon grant to help fund the planning and building of a new barge dock. Connect Oregon grants help move transportation of goods off freeways and onto railroads and waterways. The $3 million dock will be at Willow Creek on the Columbia River. According to Jodi Grady from the Port of Arlington, the city hopes the dock will attract new businesses into an industrial park around the barge dock. The dock should be open in April 2007. Portland-based Berger/Abam Engineers will oversee the construction following approval by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
