Baker City
In less than a year, residents of Baker City and the
surrounding area will be able to view their favorite programs
on digital and high-definition television. Oregon Public Broadcasting received
a $138,106 Rural Utility Service grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and
plans to use those funds to install digital equipment for
broadcasting in about 3,800 homes in the Baker Valley area. The
grant will also fund a pilot program to use digital technology
in seven Baker City schools beginning in 2007. Under the new
grant, OPB will connect Baker Valley residents with resources
in Salem, medical services at the Oregon Health & Science
University, as well as nearly all of the public colleges
in the Willamette Valley.
