{safe_alt_text}THE NORTH COAST

The National Science Foundation announced $19 million in research funding for a new Science and Technology Center for Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction. The funding creates a partnership between OGI School of Science and Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University and the University of Washington to study the mouth of the  Columbia River. The center, to be based at OGI in Hillsboro, will research how the Columbia, the source of three-quarters of the fresh water pouring into the Pacific Ocean from the West Coast, affects wide areas of the ocean.
