The Southern Oregon pear harvest will be exceptionally strong this year according to officials at the Fruit Growers League of Jackson County. “It’s been a great growing season,” says Dan Hull, a league spokesman. “The volume will be above the average that we’ve seen for the last four or five years and the finish on the pears is exceptional.” The industry employs some 1,000 seasonal workers. Demand is expected to be strong, in part because the pear harvest to the south was damaged by rain and to the north by hail.
