Semiconductor giant Intel Corp., which employs 17,000 Oregonians, announced plans to cut its workforce by 10%, a total of 10,500 jobs. Details about the layoff were sparse, but more than 1,000 local jobs could be in jeopardy. The layoffs, planned to cut costs amid strengthening competition in the semiconductor industry, are the biggest in Intel’s history and may be among the largest in the state’s history.
