Construction has begun at McNary Field to install security screening and add a modular building for passenger services in the hope of attracting commercial air service. The Salem City Council approved as much as $500,000 for the scaled-down project, to be completed by the end of this year, after it learned that it would not receive the $2.5 million it requested from the Connect Oregon program. Talks continue between the City of Salem and several airlines.
