The wireless cloud is moving closer to Lebanon. The City of Lebanon has reached an agreement with Consumer Power to install the remaining 12 to 15 wireless access points necessary for citywide wireless coverage. Police officers and public works crews will use the system, and every citizen and visitor will get 10 free hours of use each month. The city expects payback of its initial investment in four years, says city technology manager Tom Oliver, by receiving 6% of revenue from accounts using more than the free hours. Lebanon was able to purchase the equipment at a discount by partnering with Cisco as a beta test site for a municipal wireless project.
