{safe_alt_text}Irrigon

The City of Irrigon has been awarded a $1.04 million grant and a $1.7 million loan for water system improvements by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development. Construction will begin this fall to upgrade the old and undersized system plagued by nitrate infiltration. The town of roughly 1,700 residents has a talent for getting money for infrastructure improvements.  In 2004, it landed a $500,000 grant for water improvements; in 2002 it received a $2.5 million loan and a $1.25 million grant for construction of a new wastewater treatment facility and collection system.
