CASCADE LOCKS  —  The Port of Cascade Locks has announced that Escape Lodging Company of Cannon Beach is in the planning stages for a proposed $12 million resort, spa and restaurant on port property at the north end of town. The parcel extends to the Columbia River and is on a treed bluff of about five to eight acres of port land. The project, which would create 40 jobs, includes 45 to 75 guest rooms and bungalows, with a main lodge, spa and restaurant. Escape Lodging’s CEO, Tom Drumheller, expects a 2007 groundbreaking on land leased from the port, and says that the project is not tied to the proposed area casino. Escape Lodging owns and operates several businesses in Cannon Beach and The Dalles.
