Gov. Ted Kulongoski and Microsoft Corp. CEO Steven Balmer joined Portland State University dignitaries for a grand opening ceremony of the $35 million Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology last month. PSU alum and engineer Fariborz Maseeh contributed $6 million to the project. The 130,000-square-foot building, housing 41 research and teaching labs, will also offer a Microsoft Innovation Center, a 750-square-foot lab aimed to bring technology closer to the community.
