In a move that will expand its retail presence, Columbia Sportswear Company bought the Pacific Trail family of brands from bankrupt London Fog Group for $20.4 million in cash plus the assumption of some liabilities. Pacific Trails includes the brands Towne (outerwear and rainwear), Pac Tec (high-performance outerwear), Black Dot (surfing apparel) and Moonstone (mountain equipment) along with the Pacific Trails line of outerwear and sportswear. Grant Prentice, a Columbia Sportswear vice president, was named as the interim manager of the new group of brands, which will give the company access to new distribution channels.
