 — A biomass energy project appears to be coming to fruition at the Collins Company’s Fremont sawmill. DG Energy of San Diego is negotiating with Collins to lease land for the plant — up to 22 MW in size — which the energy developer will fund and operate. Electricity, generated from forest products too small or irregular to be used for timber, would be sold to Pacific Power and potentially south into California. DG CEO Steve Muller says he expects agreements to be hammered out by mid-2006 on the $20 million to $30 million project. “There’s nothing that I see that will create problems with funding and stop us from proceeding,” Muller says.
