APRIL 2008: READER LETTERS
At-home businesses hit a nerve, fill a need
I ENJOYED the ARTICLE on home-based businesses [HOMEWORK,
FEBRUARY] because I am one. Like Christine Campbell, I
figured out the corporate life was not for me. I started a
self-employed bookkeeping business about 13 years ago. In three
years, I hit my 10-year revenue mark.
I think the SOHO (small office/home office) environment will
continue to grow because the pluses greatly outweigh the
minuses. Technology will continue to improve, opening more
opportunities for people to stay at home and work. I listened
to several speakers about starting your own company before I
did it myself, and it certainly saved me from making a lot of
mistakes. I do have one serious regret — that I
didn’t do this about 10 years earlier than I did.
Since this is a growing field, I hope Oregon Business will
continue to have articles about the SOHOs.
